Les excavations montrent que le plan de ce palais \u00e9tait semblable \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres palais minoens en Cr\u00e8te et qu&rsquo;il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;abord construit pendant le 19\u00e8me si\u00e8cle avant J\u00e9sus-Christ mais il a \u00e9t\u00e9 modifi\u00e9 plus tard, vers 1600 avant J\u00e9sus-Christ. Le palais avait une cour centrale entour\u00e9e d&rsquo;un ensemble de b\u00e2timents avec des couloirs labyrinthiques et de nombreuses pi\u00e8ces. Le monast\u00e8re a \u00e9t\u00e9 fortifi\u00e9 par de solides murs de 10 m\u00e8tres de haut pour se prot\u00e9ger des pirates et autres envahisseurs au cours des si\u00e8cles pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents.
